From the Cascades to the Closing Table: Why an Outdoor Obsession Makes Me Your Best Real Estate Guide

When you choose a real estate agent in Western North Carolina, you aren’t just looking for someone to open a door or fill out a template contract. You are looking for someone who understands the dirt, the water, the roads, and the community of the place you want to call home.

My journey to WNC real estate didn’t start in an office cubicle—it started on the river. To help you understand how my background directly benefits your next move, I want to answer the questions that matter most when you're choosing an agent.

How did I get here? (And why I never left)

In 2012, I took a week of vacation time to travel down from Rochester, New York, for a whitewater kayaking clinic at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC). Like so many people who visit these mountains, a piece of my soul stayed behind when I drove home. For years, I used every scrap of my vacation time to come back and recreate in WNC.

Finally, I reached a turning point. I left my career as a radio controller for the RTS bus company, uprooted my life, and moved down full-time to teach whitewater kayaking for the NOC. That single leap of faith grew into a decade-long international adventure—teaching paddling in Chile and Ecuador, managing major paddlesports retail operations for the NOC and Colorado Kayak Supply (CKS), and running logistics for regional powerhouses like UPS and Southern Concrete Materials.

Today, when I’m not analyzing market data, you can find me coaching the morning crew at CrossFit Murphy or paddling my favorite local stretch of whitewater, the Nantahala Cascades.

Why does a kayaking background matter to a Buyer or Seller?

You might wonder what navigating Class V rapids or managing supply chains has to do with buying or selling a home. The answer is everything.

  • Unmatched Visual Marketing for Sellers: While teaching kayaking full-time, I built a highly successful side hustle in real estate photography and digital brand marketing for a handful of whitewater brands. I know exactly how light hits a room, how to capture the architectural soul of a mountain home, and how to visually engineer a listing so it commands top-dollar attention online.

  • Elite Geographic Intelligence for Buyers: I have paddled, hiked, and explored nearly every square inch of this region—from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. Whether your dream property is in Murphy, Bryson City, Franklin, or Andrews, I don't just know the street addresses; I know the elevation, the terrain, the river access points, and the neighborhood vibes.

  • The Hustle to Close the Deal: My background in transportation routing, logistics, and operations means I don't fold under pressure. Real estate transactions require intense coordination, problem-solving, and a gritty work ethic. I know how to manage timelines, communicate flawlessly, and push through obstacles to get you across the finish line.

Who is my ideal client?

My ideal client is anyone who wants an authentic, trustworthy advocate.

Whether you are a local family looking to upsell your land, an outdoor enthusiast searching for a basecamp near the trails, or someone looking to relocate just like I did, you can fully lean on my deep local connections, tireless work ethic, and complete lay of the land. I came here for a week and fell in love with it; let me help you find your own piece of these mountains.
